Building Confidence and a Pathway to Employment

Stage 1
The Problem
A young person aged 19 came to us through a referral from a charity partner. They had been living in unsuitable private accommodation and had disengaged from all education and employment for over a year. They were dealing with significant anxiety, had very little confidence in their own abilities, and had no clear sense of direction for their future. Their living situation was unstable and they were at risk of losing their accommodation entirely.
Stage 2
The Intervention
We provided a stable, self-contained room through our semi-independent living pathway and connected the young person with a dedicated Key Worker. Rather than pushing for immediate employment, we focused first on rebuilding confidence and wellbeing. Over several months we supported them to access online counselling through Kooth, develop a daily routine, and gradually re-engage with structured activity. We then worked with them to identify a career direction they were genuinely excited about, supported them to build a CV, and connected them with the Redbridge Into Work programme.
Stage 3
The Outcome
The young person secured a paid apprenticeship in a sector they were passionate about within seven months of joining our service. Their confidence had visibly transformed. They began volunteering in the local community, developed a strong friendship group, and told us they felt ready to live fully independently for the first time. They moved on to their own tenancy with ongoing floating support, which they successfully sustained. This case reflects exactly what our service is designed to do: meet a young person where they are and walk with them all the way to independence.
